PRP Treatments

for knee osteroarthritis

Platelet rich plasma (PRP) treatments for osteoarthritis (OA), specifically in the knee joint, is an autologous treatment that utilizes your body’s own platelet proteins to promote tissue healing. This treatment attempts to take advantage of your own growth factors from your blood to stimulate healing properties to repair damaged cartilage, tendons, ligaments, muscles, or even bone.

  • ‘Autologous’ means ‘it comes from you’. By taking a sample of your own blood, your doctor can process the blood to extract and concentrate certain molecules. “Good” proteins have a therapeutic effect on the osteoarthritis process happening in your knee.

This procedure is ideal for individuals who are not yet suitable for joint replacement surgery (knee replacement surgery) and who wish to have relief from the pain of osteoarthritis.

*This procedure requires the patient to have a referral from their family doctor or nurse practitioner. If you do not have a healthcare provider, please book an appointment with us so we can discuss options for your treatment plan.

nSTRIDE®

Autologous Protein Solution (APS)

for knee osteoarthritis

nSTRIDE® autologous protein solution (APS) is a novel (new) treatment for joint pain and osteoarthritis (OA) which has been approved by Health Canada and the FDA for treatment of knee OA.

  • nSTRIDE® is a treatment for your knee joint designed to alleviate pain and bring balance back to your inflamed knee by introducing high levels of “good” proteins concentrated from your own blood. These good proteins can block the “bad” protein which are responsible for the inflammatory condition in your joint. Other “good” proteins can then contribute to the health of your cartilage. In just one treatment, nSTRIDE® can reduce pain in the knee joint, improve joint function and may slow the destruction of cartilage.

    • nSTRIDE® has been proven to significantly reduce pain associated with knee osteoarthritis for up to 3 years.

    • Significantly improves mobility in the knee joint associated with knee osteoarthritis.

  • ‘Autologous’ means ‘it comes from you’. By taking a sample of your own blood, your doctor can process the blood to extract and concentrate certain molecules. “Good” proteins have a therapeutic effect on the osteoarthritis process happening in your knee.

nSTRIDE® is the only ‘autologous anti-inflammatory’ treatment. This means nSTRIDE® works by targeting the inflammation in your knee joint and treating the ‘mechanism of wear’ by using a natural solution sourced from within you.

  • In an osteoarthritic knee, inflammatory cytokines (“bad” proteins) outnumber anti-inflammatory cytokines (“good” proteins) causing an imbalance resulting in knee pain and cartilage degeneration.

The inflammatory proteins IL-1 and TNFa attack the cartilage. These “bad” proteins must be stopped simultaneously to decrease pain and slow cartilage degeneration.

The nSTRIDE® treatment introduces high levels of “good” proteins (IL-1ra, sIL-1R, sTNF-RI, and sTNF-RII) that is designed to overwhelm and block the inflammatory cytokines (bad proteins) IL-1 and TNFa. Laboratory, animal, and human studies have shown that nSTRIDE® has decreased pain and slowed cartilage degeneration, unlike traditional therapies.

While balance is being restored to the knee, anabolic (building) growth factors (IGF-1 and TGF-.1) are also introduced for beneficial cartilage health. Therefore, nSTRIDE® creates a novel therapy, which may reduce pain in the knee joint, may improve joint function and slow the destruction of cartilage.

  • nSTRIDE® and PRP injections are similar in that both are autologous treatments that utilize blood proteins to promote tissue healing. The key difference between the two is that nSTRIDE® contains leukocytes and anti-inflammatory cytokines, which are not present in PRP injections. Also, unlike PRP, which requires several injections to attain desirable results, nSTRIDE® is a one-time injection providing results that typically last between 1 to 2 years.

This Autologous Anti-Inflammatory treatment is provided in a single session in the doctor’s office.

This procedure is ideal for individuals who suffer from mild to moderate OA and who are not yet suitable for joint replacement surgery (knee replacement surgery).
